About the author
An underinformed and overhyped product of the American public school system, Mr. Blithe shuffles through the desolate wasteland that is modern existence with his hands thrust firmly in his pockets and his head cast down at his union-labor sneakers, harboring the vague notion that every other human being on the face of the earth is totally batshit fucking loco. Resembling nothing so much as a living, breathing Muppet sans those little rods in his wrists—and I guess with more articulation in his hands and maybe a slightly more expressive face also—he once opted to leave behind the major forces of sanity and stability in his life to set out under his own power towards a Life Experience involving the teaching of English in Japan, land of animated tentacle porn and space-age toilets. After a two semesters in Ol’ Nippon, he returned to the United States ready to enjoy all those things he’d spent the previous seven months complaining about missing. Mr. Blithe looks to the day when he will be able to make a living by writing about weird things and using way too many semicolons. He has been told—more than once!—that he has a voice like a cartoon character, which he can neither confirm nor deny.
Mr. Blithe’s hobbies include avoiding eye contact, consumable media, and catching strep throat from mosh pits. He can be reached by e-mail at misterblithe(AT)gmail(DOT)com.
About This Website
The name of this site is “Worse Than Coleslaw” because coleslaw is just about the worst thing there is. The title is somewhat optimistic by suggesting that, in a world where the most terrible thing conceivable already exists, the condition of the world can only improve; but the title is also pessimistic in that it implicitly acknowledges the possibility of something being even worse than the worst thing. Hope and despair in one convenient package. In that way it is similar to teaching in rural Japan, so there’s like, a deeper connection there or something.
